Cadets at DSMS

"It will be a great opportunity for all students" quotes Mr Kipling about the cadet force coming here to DSMS. In a scheme planned to happen by January next year, a school cadet force will be put into operation.
Cadets is a great way to teach discipline in a way that a classroom can't. Using military technique and skill, teenagers can be trained to be able to complete a huge range of tasks, all expanding their physical and mental abilities. From hiking and orienteering to shooting and logic puzzles, the cadets is a great way to expand your knowledge and stamina. Survival and life skills are learned with the most efficient methods and make efficient, hard working young individuals who possess a multitude of life skills.

Also, with ties to the army, people who would like a career in the military would have a much greater chance of getting their dream job. Prices for joining and getting uniform is planned to be free as well, so you will pay a lot less than any other cadet detachment in the town. A school - based cadet detachment has never been done before in Darlington, all other detachments are more militarily based. So it'll tie right in with school life.
Great trips happen with the cadets as well, summer camp is always a great opportunity to show off your new skills, and learn more. Other smaller camps and trips take place as well; mountain hikes, trips to shooting ranges, sports, night hikes and sometimes even trips abroad, cadets can offer so many fantastic opportunities, and the school is proud to offer these to students.
The staff running the detachment will mainly be volunteers, but key jobs will be given to members of the army, since they have a lot of experience and skill with command and training tasks. The detachment will begin partnered with the army to give the boost and experience needed to kick start the process of setting everything up, but eventually will move on to becoming a school detachment. Also, the detachment is planned to be tied with QE sixth form, meaning older students can remain in the detachment even after leaving DSMS!
The sessions will begin at 4:00 on Tuesdays and Thursdays and will last for two hours. Only year eight and above will be able to join. People wanting to join will have to be interviewed, and selected by Mr Kipling. There are only 25 spaces available, so apply as soon as possible!
